The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation--a donor-supported, nonprofit organization--is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis (CF) and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease.
Description:
The Foundation is the leading organization in the United States devoted to cystic fibrosis. It has more than 80 chapters and fund-raising offices nationwide and supports a network of accredited CF care centers which provide patients and families with vital treatment and other CF resources. The Foundation is one of the most efficient organizations of its kind. In 2005, nearly 90% of every dollar of revenue raised was available for investment in CF research, care and education programs. The National Institutes of Health and many prominent publications, including Forbes and USAToday, have heralded our innovative business model, which fuels drug discovery and development programs.
History:
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) was founded in 1955 and is dedicated to supporting specialized medical care and research to improve the quality and length of life for individuals with CF and ultimately to find the cure. Specialized medical care is available through nearly 200 CFF-accredited Care Centers (The University of Utah and Primary Children’s Medical Center being one location), affiliate programs, and adult CF care programs throughout the country. The success of the comprehensive care center approach is illustrated by the increasing lifespan. When the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was founded in 1955, few children with CF lived to attend elementary school. Today, the median age of survival for an individual with CF is 36.8 years!!!
