Recreation and Habilitation Services is committed to supporting individuals with developmental and physical disabilities in their pursuit of independence and self-enhancement through training, recreation, and involvement in the community. Our organization exists to provide educational and recreational programs for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. Our main goals in providing these services are to enhance the quality of life for these individuals and their families by helping them achieve maximum independence.

Description:
For over 30 years, RAH has been helping individuals rise to new heights of personal achievement and development. RAH serves about 800 participants each month ranging in age and ability. All activities and programs are designed to meet the needs and enhance the lives of our participants. A sampling of our programs and services are provided below.

  • Provide a network of friends and emotional support
  • Offer social recreational activities
  • Teach appropriate social skills
  • Promote independence through educational classes and skills training
  • Educate about appropriate leisure time activities
  • Make respite available for caregivers while their family member participates in RAH
  • Render support for families and caregivers
  • Help individuals connect with their community
  • Provide service opportunities

  • History:
Our organization was established in 1960 as the Utah Valley Care and Training Center to provide educational experiences for the developmentally disabled population because at the time children with developmental disabilities were not entitled to a public education. In 1971 school districts were mandated to provide a free and public education for all children. Under the direction of the board of directors, Recreation for All Handicapped was started that same year to enhance the services available for this population. In 1993, in order to better reflect our mission, our organization’s name was officially changed to Recreation and Habilitation Services (RAH).
