Description:
Contacting the Utah Poison Control Center is free and confidential. Nationally recognized as a Certified Regional Poison Control Center by the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC), the UPCC is one of 60 centers with such distinction. The Utah Poison Control Center is a 24-hour resource for poison information, clinical toxicology consultation and poison prevention education. Translation service is available for 130 languages. There is no such thing as a dumb question. Specialists answer calls about the following types of substances and much more!
- Medications
- Herbal supplements
- Cleaning substances
- Cosmetics and personal care products
- Plants and mushrooms
- Snake bites and bee stings
- Chemicals in the home, workplace or environment
- Automotive products
- Pesticides
- Drug overdoses
History:
Established in 1954, the UPCC has responded to more than 1,037,000 calls for assistance. The AAPCC established voluntary standards for certified poison centers in 1978. The primary goal of certification is to ensure that all residents of a given geographic area have access to the highest quality of certified poison center services. Certification criteria include:
- poison information services,
- regional treatment capabilities,
- data collection capabilities, and
- professional and public education programs.
