The mission of Rural Housing Development Corporation is to provide quality affordable housing opportunities to individuals and families living in Central Utah.

Description:
Rural Housing Development Corporation (RHDC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works in partnership with low-income residents, governments and private businesses to provide quality affordable housing in Central Utah. Since it inception, RHDC has experienced a great deal of success in operating the Mutual Self-Help Housing program (a program for income qualified families to obtain home ownership through sweat equity and creative financing), partnering with the community, meeting its mission, and developing new housing programs. RHDC consists of a volunteer board and paid staff.

History:
Rural Housing Development Corporation (RHDC) was initially created as a non-profit arm for the Housing Authority of Utah County (HAUC) to address the lack of decent, safe, and affordable housing issues in rural areas. RHDC incorporated with the state of Utah in November 1998, and soon thereafter was designated by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). RHDC received its first funding in August 2000 by the United States Department of Agriculture-Rural Development to operate its Mutual Self-Help Housing program. In 2001, RHDC became a member organization of the United Way. In January 2003, RHDC expanded its mission from the rural 3-county service area to serve all of Central Utah because of the lack of affordable housing and to bring the self-help housing program to our urban areas.
