  Springville Playhouse

Last updated on June 13, 2007

To provide a Community Theater which includes programs for the youth and disadvantaged children.

History:
A small group of Springville citizens gathered together in 1947 with a goal of promoting and producing theatrical events in their community. The resulting organization, known as the Springville Playhouse, is the longest continuously-running community theater group in Utah.

After presenting a few small shows in 1947, the group offered its first full-length production, An Ideal Husband, in 1948. Originally known as the Springville Little Theater, the theater group changed its name in 1949 to the Springville Playhouse.

Since the beginning, the group has produced many well-known and beloved plays and musicals including Meet Me in St. Louis, Our Town, Exit the Body, Anything Goes, Once Upon a Mattress, and You Can't Take it With You. Currently, the playhouse presents up to four productions each year, which includes a children's play in the summer.

One element that sets the playhouse apart is that each person involved in the productions is a volunteer. They aren't compensated for their efforts, making their passion for theater evident.

The Springville Playhouse is a non-profit organization run by a Board of Directors which consists mainly of Springville citizens. Springville City has been very generous over the years lending its support to the theater group by allowing a home in the lower level of the Springville Civic Center (directly under the Springville Library).
