Our mission is to work cooperatively in creating an atmosphere of beauty, safety and pride in downtown Provo; to strengthen the business and professional reputation of downtown Provo as a caring and effective resource for the citizens of our communities; and to make downtown Provo a destination attraction for residents and visitors.
Description:
Our organization is dedicated to enhancing the beauty of downtown Provo; intensifying business recruitment and retention in downtown Provo; increasing promotional activity in downtown Provo; and addressing traffic and other developmental issues in the Historic Downtown Provo district.
History:
The Downtown Business Alliance of Provo was founded in June 2001 after concern was raised regarding the direction of downtown Provo. In March of 1999, an Ad-Hoc committee was formed under the direction of Mayor Lewis Billings that included several businesses and property owners with ties to downtown. For two years, the committee met monthly to brainstorm ideas and gather information about different downtowns across the nation. In June of 2001, the Provo City Council unanimously approved the formation of the Downtown Business Alliance of Provo. Prior to this decision, the Downtown Alliance was known as the Provo Downtown Action Committee and did not yet have a formal district in place.
