I need you! My name is Maria or it could be Kim, Anna or Colby. I am 3 yrs old or I could be up to 18. We all have one thing in common. We all suffer from neglect or abuse and for our protection, some of us live in foster homes. Abused children come from all walks of life and cultures. The lucky ones have been assigned a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate.) Do you have any spare hugs? Can you guide me? Can you be my advocate? If you are an adult and you love children, maybe you could become a CASA. WE REALLY NEED YOU!
Description:
An estimated 924,000 children in the US were victims of abuse or neglect last year. Utah is included in that number. The Office of Guardian ad Litem is a state agency which is appointed by the court to represent the best interests of children who are under the court's jurisdiction through no fault of their own. CASA is a part of the agency providing dedicated volunteers to aid in establishing that best interest.
History:
CASA was established in 1977 by Judge Sokum in Washington State in order for him to have accurate information about children's needs and lives so he could make informed decisions about their futures. It has grown into a national program in all 50 states.
