Support for First-time Parents Opportunities for Nursing/Health Students United Way Agency Preparing Children to Succeed in School and Beyond

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on July 12, 2010

Utah County has the highest birthrate in the nation. That means we've got a lot of first-time parents with questions. They are in need of support from those who are experienced in raising children.

Become a home visitor and enjoy the fulfillment of strengthening families in your community. Have fun interacting with infants, mentoring parents, and giving back to the community by sharing insights from your personal experiences with children.

Each volunteer is assigned to visit three families once a month. The visits last about one hour and are tailored to the families' needs, concerns, and interests.

Visit first-time parents with new babies as a home visitor. Sharing information about development, community resources, and serve as a peer-parent.

To qualify as a volunteer home visitor, one must have experience with childcare, either as a parent, caregiver, or student. Home visitors receive training and background checks before beginning the home visits. They need to commit to at least one year of service. Couples are welcome and encouraged to participate.

5 Overall Experience    Experience rating
Not only have I been able to share information and help families, I have been learning new things and making new friends!

I am an intern for Welcome Baby, and have been a volunteer for two months. I have learned very valuable information about the community, and what I will need for my own parenting experience. I have had a spectacular time helping other people to learn about this information, and I have definitely made new friends with my fellow volunteers as well as the families I teach. There is nothing more rewarding than the feeling you get from helping other people!
