Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Staff and volunteers at the Crisis Line work to de-escalate general crisis and suicide situations by (1) providing a listening ear, and (2) helping callers find solutions to their problems through personal and community resources. Training is provided.

All prospective Crisis Line volunteers must complete a 14-hour training and submit a background check before volunteering at the Crisis Line. The Crisis Line training focuses on developing reflective listening skills, understanding crisis situations, becoming familiar with available community services, and discussing Crisis Line call-taking procedures.

The next 14-hour training is schedule for March 2-6, 2010:
Tuesday, March 2, 6:00 pm-10:00 pm
Thursday, March 4, 6:00 pm-9:30 pm
Saturday, March 6, 8:30 am-3:00 pm

Day shifts are scheduled in three-hour blocks of time (Sun-Sat 7am-10pm)and overnight shifts are every night from 10 pm to 7 am Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one three-hour shift each week and one overnight shift each month.
