Camp Floyd History Camps for Kids Summer/outdoor opportunities

Last updated on April 6, 2008

Each year Camp Floyd State Park sponsors history camps for kids, which are based on the history of Johnston’s Army and the Civil War. These three-day camps provide participants with a fun-filled, hands-on living history experience about how soldiers lived at 1861Camp Floyd, and how the Utah War served pre-Civil War objectives. Campers will play 19th Century games, drill, march and set up a soldier’s camp; make and take home soldier craft activities, conduct a full-scale military exercise; see muskets and a cannon fired.

In order to keep up with the demand for these camps, the staff at Camp Floyd State Park are seeking volunteers to assist. Volunteers will be dressed in period military uniforms, issued a musket rifle and help with activities of the camp, including a full-scale military battle. Both men and women are needed for this program. Besides being a fun experience, volunteers also receive discounts in the museum gift shop and incentive awards for the number of hours contributed.

The history camps are scheduled June, July and August 2007, and are conducted at Camp Floyd State Park in Fairfield, Utah. The number of camps offered will depend on the response of volunteers.

Volunteers will be required to commit at least one day a month to this program. The park staff welcomes you to participate in this fun activity!
